Millennium Makes a Difference

Albert Einstein once said, "All meaningful and lasting change starts first in your imagination and then works its way out." In 1998, a group of employees imagined an organization within Millennium that would offer all employees the opportunity to contribute time and talent to our community.

The meaningful change that resulted from their imagination is a vibrant employee-based program called: Millennium Makes a Difference (MMAD). Now, a decade later, our Company still proudly supports this program and the imagination that brought it about.

Community Service Day

2008 marked the 10-year anniversary of Community Service Day, the flagship event of Millennium Makes a Difference. On June 27, more than 400 Millennium employees, family and friends came together to improve ten community sites around Boston and Cambridge.

Holiday Giving program

Each year employees engage in a number of activities around the holidays.

  • » One way is by raising money to 'adopt' families and children in need by providing household items and completing their holiday wish lists. In 2008, we adopted four single-parent families who recently left abusive situations
  • » Supported Holiday Mail for Heroes to bring cheer to our troops
  • » Supported children involved with the Frank Iovieno Caring for Children Foundation, Cambridge Family and Children's Service and Christmas in the City
  • » Hold clothing drives for the homeless at Arlington Street Church, New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans and Rosie's Place. Last year we donated more than 100 bags of clothing

MMAD Scientists Program

For years, scientists at Millennium have supported science education at all levels to enrich the level of interest in science, scientific literacy, and to stimulate interest in pursuing careers in science.

  • » Invited students from the Whitehead Institute to Millennium for a lecture on "Conquering Cancer"
  • » Conducted science experiments for high school students at the Cambridge Marriott Hotel
  • » Educated adults and children on the power of cancer drug development at the Cambridge Science Festival sponsored by MIT
  • » Volunteered as judges at the MA State Science Fair at MIT
  • » Managed a one-week internship for the award-winning high school student from the Massachusetts State Science Fair

Day to Serve

Every employee is given the opportunity to use one workday per year towards charitable giving or community service events that matter to you.

Buck-a-Check program

More than 25% of Millennium employees participate in the Buck-a-Check program, a convenient payroll deduction that allows them to contribute to three local charities. We provide approximately $40,000 a year to these organizations. $1 per paycheck can go a long way!

Feeding the Homeless Fridays

Through a partnership with Arlington Street Church, Millennium employees can volunteer any Friday to help serve meals to the homeless at Friday Night Supper. This program hasn't missed a weekly meal since 1984.

Blood Drives

Millennium hosts two on-site blood drives each year through a partnership with Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These donations help save trauma victims, cancer patients and newborns in the Intensive Care Units at both hospitals.

EverGreen

On Earth Day 2008, Millennium launched EverGreen, a Company-wide campaign to conserve natural resources and reduce our environmental impact both at home and in the workplace.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Each year Millennium Makes A Difference proudly supports Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation's oldest and largest youth mentoring program.
