In June 2009, Takeda America Holdings, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd., acquired IDM Pharma. This biopharmaceutical company developed innovative oncology compounds targeted at immune system activation. Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company now holds global development responsibility for mifamurtide, a synthetic analog of muramyl dipeptide (MDP) provided in a liposomal formulation.
Takeda Pharmaceuticals Europe Ltd. is responsible for the commercialization of mifamurtide (MEPACT®) in Europe. The European Commission formally granted a centralized marketing authorization for MEPACT on March 6, 2009, allowing it to be marketed in the 27 EU member states, as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
